National Grid prepares to minimize winter outages

SCHENECTADY -- It may still be fall, but National Grid is already bracing for a brutal winter.

The utility company gave CBS6 a behind-the-scenes look at their training headquarters, and the efforts they are to prepare. The Schenectady training site is where most of the powerline workers get trained for a range of problems they could possibly come across in the field.

National Grid spokesman Patrick Stella says they will be investing more than $3 billion over the next 8 years to improve the infrastructure. That overhaul is also expected to cut down on winter outages.
