Health Dept: cyber attack not behind exchange site problems

ALBANY -- Users continued to experience problems with the states health exchange website Thursday. The Health Department reported 44,000 people visited and shopped on the page and its phone operators have helped 10,500 since Tuesday.

Some frustrated people looking for information have turned to health insurance companies for assistance.

We're already getting a lot of phone calls at CDPHP about the exchange. People want to know how they can get CDPHP, about the exchange, said Dr. John Bennett, President and CEO of CDPHP. We expected this, we prepared for it. We actually have a separate call center set up within CDPHP to answer exchange related questions so we're well prepared.

The health exchange website has received more than 10 million hits since it opened, which prompted speculation protesters may be using bots to prevent users from accessing the page or supporters of the Affordable Care Act may be showing the need. The Health Department said so far its security analysts have not seen evidence supporting those concerns.
