Crime Tracking Maps

Anyone who wants to see where and when crimes are committed in Troy will have a window to look through in the form of something called RAIDS Online, a program Troy's police department is now using.

Police announced Thursday they are offering the service with help from Bair Analytics, the firm providing the software. Many other police departments across the nation are also using it but only one in New York: Easthampton.

By using people can search by date, type of crime and other elements to find out what has been happening in their neighborhoods.

The mapping tool also shows the names, addresses and photos or registered sex offenders.

Users may search for one or more of various types of crimes. One effect is expected to be that people may become more involved in and aware of what is going on in their neighborhoods and may end up in some cases assisting police with fighting crime.
