250 jobs shuffling to downtown Albany

ALBANY -- 250 jobs will soon fill a vacant downtown Albany historic building, according to officials at a press conference Monday.

According to state and City of Albany officials the former Union Station, now known as Kiernan Plaza, will soon house three companies. The building, located on Broadway, has sat vacant since 2009, according to state officials.

The three companies will bring 120 current jobs will them to their new downtown building. 130 new jobs are expected after the moves are complete.

The SEFCU Credit Union will move part of its headquarters to the Kiernan Plaza, said President and CEO Michael Castellana.

"We are coming down here as much as a statement as is a place to hang our hat," Castellana said. "We could make our headquarters anywhere, we could do whatever we want (but) we want to be right here in downtown Albany (and) make this the hub and vibrant again."

The total investment to move the companies is $30 million. The public/private partnership means $4 million of state money coupled with $26 million of private money.
