Rotterdam man admits to killing girlfriend, mother
ROTTERDAM -- He will serve at least 35 years in prison for raping and killing his estranged girlfriend and her mother.
In Schenectady County Court on Tuesday, 29-year-old Brice Rivenburgh of Rotterdam accepted a deal and pleaded guilty to two counts of second degree murder for the double slaying of Jessica and Tammy McCormack back on April 10, 2013.
Investigators say Rivenburgh broke into the McCormack's home on Inner Circle Drive and raped and killed his estranged ex-girlfriend, Jessica. He also killed her mother, Tammy.
After killing both women, Rivenburgh attempted to cover his tracks by breaking into the home and stealing items, tampering with evidence and setting the house on fire to destroy evidence. He also sent text messages to Jessica's phone after the murders in an attempt to throw investigators off his trail.
Rivenburgh was originally facing 26 charges including rape, murder, burglary and arson but those were dropped as part of his plea deal. He will serve a minimum of 35 years and faces up to 45 years to life as part of the agreement. He will be sentenced on October 22nd.
