Thursdays Storms Bring Damage
Among the areas affected by Thursday's heavy rain and flash floods, part of Nassau was "dramatically impacted" according to Supervisor David Fleming, Jr.
Fleming said town and village highway crews were working to clear debris and open roads around 10:15 p.m. A few hours earlier, at the intersection of Church St. and Elm Street, water was running west down Route 20 and pooling in front of Grampy's, the Sunoco station and convenience store. After the store owner cleared debris away from a storm drain the water went down and the pavement was visible within about half an hour.
Part of Malden St. was closed because of a creek that was pouring over the top of a culvert and running down the street.
Fleming said a "full damage assessment" would be made Friday morning.
