NYer's Still Waiting on Tax Refunds

A month after the New York State Tax Department expected to have caught up with issuing tax refunds for the 2012 tax year, Capital Region residents are still waiting for theirs.

Liz Stevens of Scotia is still waiting for her $800 tax refund and keeps coming up empty every time she calls for a status update.

Tim Lloyd is a Granville dairy farmer and is waiting for his refund too.  he's always had it by the end of april and is owed $7000s.  He needs it for repairs to equipment and can't wait any longer.

He's had to borrow money from relatives just to stay afloat.

Tim's also received no information from the tax department.

On July 1st, CBS 6 submitted a FOIL request to the department of taxation and finance asking for data as it pertained to a variety of questions, including how much interest was paid on delayed refunds last year compared to this year.

Just this week, nearly 2 months after our initial request, CBS 6 received a letter explaining that "FOIL is not the proper mechanism to obtain answers to questions."

The letter then goes on to say that they "have already made the press office privy to your questions and they will be in touch with your shortly to discuss."

Despite attempts to get answers from spokesperson Geoff Gloak, no new information was received by 5pm Wednesday.

Tim and Liz, like so many others, aren't just upset about the absence of their refunds, but the absence of information.

In case you're still waiting for your refund, here's the number for the refund inquiry line.
