Stillwater zoning board approves chip fab plant expansion

STILLWATER: in a unanimous vote, approval for zoning changes that could result in a $15 billion chip fabrication plant and creation of more jobs in the area.

The Stillwater Town Board, voting 5-0 Thursday night, clears the way for the expansion to the GlobalFoundries site.

GlobalFoundries has not confirmed plans to build the fab plant, and says it has no timeline.  If they do plan to build, it would then become one of the largest private construction projects in the country.

The project under consideration is roughly a 575,000 square foot factory on the campus, and would create around 4000 jobs.
