Man arrested for poisoning dog, cat intended target
HALFMOON -- A man was
arrested on charges of attempting to poison an animal after a dog ate food
laced with rat poison he allegedly left for a nuisance cat.
I called the vet and he told me to induce vomiting with peroxide to get a sample of whatever it was and get the dog to the vet, said Melissa Griffin, the dogs owner. It's just a terrible feeling. Pets are more than pets they're part of the family.
Griffins dog Shelby was treated with carbon and released home. She then went to her neighbors with security cameras to see if they captured who left the poison.
Over the weekend, a neighbor came forward with video that supposedly showed Richard Fugaro walking to the grassy area and putting down the food.
I was just disgusted. Its such a terrible act, a terrible thing to do, said Griffin.
Fugaros attorney declined to comment Thursday night. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
Griffin said Fugaro apologized for his actions.
As I thought about it more in the afternoon I appreciate the fact that he came forward to say that he was sorry, but no, I blame him for this, said Griffin. This is a terrible thing that he did putting poison out in a common area.
