Al-Qaida terror threat prompts worldwide travel alert
WASHINGTON (AP/CBS) -- The State Department issued a worldwide travel alert because of an al-Qaida terror threat.
The issue was issued Friday morning, warning US citizens traveling abroad, specifically in the Middle East, North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, to be alert.
Issued just hours after some US embassies oversears were shut down, the alert will remain in effect through the month of August.
The threat is described as a "significant" al-Qaida plot but the State Department is not releasing any specifics about the threat.
