Patchy areas of light snow wil persist through the evening with brief localized bursts of moderate snow possible through 8pm.  Additional snow accumulations will be spotty and light, generally 1" or less through the evening.  The cold air in place will continue to support slow and slippery travel conditions with less traveled roads, parking lots, and sidewalks remaining snow covered through the night.

Police: Scotia man, 20, stabbed mother to death

SCOTIA -- She was stabbed to death at the hands of her son.
That's what Scotia Police say happened to 59-year-old Theresa Bernard found dead by her husband in their North Ballston Avenue home.

Her son, 20-year-old Jeffrey Steele was seen leaving the home by a Scotia Police officer shortly after Steele's stepfather called 911.

Steele took off on foot but was arrested shortly after at a nearby auto body shop.  The arresting officers had to use a taser to subdue Steele after he raised a knife at them.

"I believe he would have been a threat.  He was someone who just committed a vicious crime with a dangerous instrument that he still had on him.  We don't know what his state of mind immediately following that incident was, so we don't know what he would of done if he encountered anyone else," said Scotia Police Chief Pete Frisoni.

Steele has been charged with second degree murder.  He was arraigned Sunday and remains in Schenectady County Jail without bail.
