SCHENECTADY -- A 21-year-old Schenectady man is facing felony charges for fleeing the scene of a hit and run accident and crashing into a gas pump.
Schenectady Police say they arrested Steve Braxton early Wednesday after he was allegedly involved in a crash at the intersection of Crane Street and Fourth Avenue in Schenectady around midnight on Wednesday.
Investigators say Braxton hit another car but took off. Shortly after Braxton lost control on his car going around a turn and hit a Mobil gas pump on Broadway Avenue.
The pump caught fire after it was hit but the pumps were quickly turned off and the fire was pump out, avoiding what could have been a disastrous situation.
Braxton then fled the scene of that crash.
Schenectady Police found Braxton's car a short time after and made the arrest a few hours later.
He's charged with criminal mischief and aggravated unlicensed operation.
