Snowstorm Well Underway - Periods of Heavy Snow and Difficult Travel into Tonight

Snowfall rates of 1" to at times 2" per hour are likely this afternoon and this evening across most of the area as low pressure passes to the region's south.  This will cause rapid accumulations and low visibility producing hazardous travel conditions.  The storm will begin winding down after 10-11pm with accumulating snow ending from west to east between 1am and 4am Thursday. Thruway accident sends 6 to the hospital

CHATHAM - State Police say a van lost control and rolled over on the Berkshire Spur of the New York State Thruway Saturday afternoon, sending 6 people to the hospital.

Police say 37-year-old Marialena Young was driving westbound on I-90 in the Town of Chatham when she lost control, rolling several times and coming to rest in the median.

A passenger, 50 year old Elizabeth Tyler-Penny, suffered head and internal injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center in critical condition.

One child was airlifted to a hospital with a broken leg.

Young and the other 4 children were transported to Albany Medical Center and are expected to be alright.

No arrests were made, and police are still investigating.
