Parents Press School Board On Principal

Parents of students who attend Division Street Elementary School in Saratoga Springs and people who work there will have to wait to see what result comes from complaints filed about the school's principal, Dr. Greer Miller. Parents and staff members pressed the school board at Thursday night's meeting at Saratoga Springs High School but the only answer they received was, essentially, "We're still working on it."Some have claimed Miller sometimes acts like a bully. One staff members says complaints about her go back ten years, back to before Miller was given tenure, when letters were written practically begging that she not be granted tenure. One parent, April LaManques, said her trouble with Miller began when she was late getting paperwork into the school to register her daughter for kindergarten. "Ultimately," LaManques told CBS6 News, "she said to me, 'It's going to be a long six years if we can't communicate."
One woman shared a hard copy of an e-mailed letter Miller dated July 18 in response to concerns raised at a June 27 board of education meeting. In it, Miller expresses her expectation that such matters be addressed through certain channels - none of them board meetings - and suggests anyone is welcome to meet her in person.Neither the board nor the superintendent gave any indication when there might be news of what school officials will do about the complaints, besides seeking to find out from former employees the reasons they decided to leave the school at the end of the school year. The district has not said how many left. Parents and a staff member who have been paying close attention say it is thirteen employees who either retired or received transfers.
