The Real Deal: Time Warner Cable Upping Modem Fee

ALBANYTime Warner Cable customers, who lease an internet modem from the company, will see a $2 increase in the rate starting on August 19th.  TWC implemented the $3.99/month fee last November and less than a year later, its raising the rate to $5.99/month.

A spokesman for Time Warner Cable tells CBS6, The modem lease fee is being adjusted as weve continued to deploy upgraded equipment and cycle out older modems as well as provide ongoing equipment maintenance and support to ensure optimal performance for our customers.  Customers have a choice they can opt out of the equipment charge if they prefer to purchase their own cable modem that is compatible with our Internet service.  A list of approved modems is available on our website:  www.twc.com/approveddevices.

They always use that as an excuse for everything so in my case, I'm probably

going to have to call them and say take it out, says Tina Zach, a Time Warner

Cable customer from Schenectady.  There are a small number of customers,

according to Time Warner Cable that have signed a Price Lock

Guarantee with the company, those folks will not see the increase until that

guarantee expires.  Customers who are paying regular or promotional rates

agreed to over the phone will see the increase on their next bill.
