UPDATE: Elderly woman dies after car goes over embankment

RENSSELAERVILLE - Police have released the name of the elderly woman who died after her car went over an embankment Thursday evening.

83-year-old Lorraine Ferris of 358 Shaker Run in Albany died after police say a combination of unfamiliarity of the area and becoming disoriented may have caused her to run a stop sign at a T-intersection on Route 442 in Rensselaerville.

RENSSELAERVILLE - Police say an elderly Colonie woman died after her car went over the embankment Thursday evening.

Albany Police say the 83-year-old woman may have been disoriented and unfamiliar with the area when she drove through a stop sign at T- intersection on Route 442 in Rensselaerville and went over the embankment.

Police have not released her name.
