Saratoga businesses prepare for track season

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Businesses were busy preparing for track season Monday, 11 days before the first post.

“We're hustling to get our staff in order and situated and putting our name out there,” said Elizabeth Dietrich, manager of the Crown Grill and Circus Café.

The restaurants are new to Broadway and opened on May 1. They began prepping for track season weeks ago by launching a new menu and advertising to race fans.

“Especially being a brand new business it's super important for us to get the right foot forward and keep plugging away,” said Dietrich.

Construction will be underway soon at the Adelphi Hotel. It closed for renovations last year and will undergo a facelift in the rear and major structural improvements throughout the 100-year-old building.

“We need to preserve the old hotel but yet bring it to the 21st century, as a modern high quality hotel for the area. There isn't one like this and we wanted to embrace that historic character,” said architect Dominick Ranieri.

The hotel will remain closed this season and will hopefully reopen in time for next year’s season.

“They're taking great care making sure the building maintains its historic character, its historic place on the street,” said Ranieri. “At the same time, it's a business and they want to make sure the interior provides a quality environment for the people who will be staying at the hotel.”
