Cops: Troy woman filed $480K false Boston Marathon victim claim

TROY - A Troy woman was arrested for allegedly filing a false claim to collect almost half a million  dollars from a national Boston Marathon bombing relief fund, according to Troy Police.

Investigators say Audrea Gause claimed to have suffered a traumatic brain injury during the bombings and filed a $480,000 claim with The One Fund.

Troy Police Captain, John Cooney, told CBS6 that Gause opened a bank account and on July 1 and cashed the check for $480,000. Then on July 15, she  withdrew $377,500 cash and brought that in a paperbag to a builder in Clifton Park.

Gause had been in Boston Medical Center for a claimed fall, and had obtained the paperwork and forms needed to make a claim.

Audrey Gause was taken into custody Friday morning and arraigned as a fugitive of justice.

Gause was charged with felony defrauding a nationally recognized victim relief fund.
