Partial Building Collapse in Albany

ALBANY -- A partial building collapse Saturday morning causes neighbors to be evacuated on Elk St.

According the Battalion Chief Burns of the Albany Fire Department, crews were called to the scene just after 10:00am for a partial builing collapse on Elk St. When the building fell it caused damage to the gas line of an adjacent building causing a gas leak. Neighbors were evacuated, the gas line turned off and National Grid was called to repair the line.

Deterioration of the vacant building caused the collapse and Albany Fire Officials and Code Enforcement are currently determining if and when the rest of the building should be taken down.
