Hiking enthusiasts gather at Vt.'s Stratton Mtn.

STRATTON, Vt. (AP) -- Vermont's Green Mountain Club is gathering at southern Vermont's Stratton Mountain for its annual meeting.

Club leaders say the site is fitting because Stratton Mountain is said to be the summit that inspired the creation of Vermont's Long Trail in 1910 and the Appalachian Train about a decade later.

This year's meeting of the group is expected to draw strong participation from Green Mountain Club sections based in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Activities include the club's annual business meeting on Saturday as well as afternoon hikes.
