UPDATE: 7-year-old taken off life support after being struck by car
ALBANY -- The 7-year-old boy who was hit by a car over the weekend has been taken off life support, according to family members.
Around 8 p.m. on Friday, Qasir Sutherland was running across South Pearl Street in Albany after getting food from a cookout at the Ezra Prentice Apartments when he was hit by a car.
According to Sutherland's aunt, Sakina Boyd, the boy saw the car coming but had no time to get out of its path. He was thrown about sixty feet. Witnesses say the driver was speeding, but Albany Police have not ticketed or charged the driver, who did stop, at this time.
Boyd called her nephew a "miracle baby," saying he weighed just one pound when he was born.
She said she expected he sister and brother-in-law would meet with detectives Monday.
