NY voters to decide on Adirondack land swaps

ALBANY (AP) -- New York voters will decide on two proposed state constitutional amendments for swapping land in the state's Adirondack forest preserve for other nearby parcels.
The measures, recently approved for the second time by state lawmakers, now go to the Nov. 5 ballot for possible final approval.

The first is intended to resolve a century-old dispute between the state and landowners over more than 200 parcels in the town of Long Lake. Private owners would remain in exchange for buying other land for a net benefit to the preserve.
The second would authorize NYCO Minerals to expand its mine in Lewis to 200 acres of adjoining preserve for the mineral wollastonite in exchange for about 1,500 acres to expand the Jay Mountain Wilderness and Taylor Pond Wild Forest.
