8 arrested for welfare fraud

MONTGOMERY COUNTY -- Eight people are facing welfare fraud charges for allegedly stealing money from Social Services they were not entitled to.
The following people were arrested by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department:

Michael Pearsall, 40, Amsterdam
Pearsall is facing three felony counts of offering a false instrument for filing and felony welfare fraud for allegedly for receiving $6,421 in SNAP benefits while he was running an online business.

Stanley Piper, 57, of Amsterdam
Piper allegedly failed to report workers compensation benefits and received $1,596 in SNAP benefits that he was not entitled to. Piper has been charged with felony welfare fraud.

Jennifer Wright, 35, Amsterdam
Wright is accused of failing to report her household composition correctly and her unemployment insurance benefits. Investigators say she got $7,442 in SNAP benefits she wasn't eligible for. She has been charged with three felony counts of offering a false instrument for filing and felony welfare fraud.

Ileana Guerra, 57, Amsterdam
Guerra is accused of filing a false job search document in an attempt to maintain eligibility to keep her benefits. She was charged with felony offering a false instrument for filing.

Yanira Gerena Santiago, Amsterdam
Gerena is accused of filing a false job search document to keep her benefits. She was charged with felony offering a false instrument for filing.

Reina Maldonado, Amsterdam
Maldonado is accused of filing a false job search document. She was charged with felony offering a false instrument for filing.

John Stubley, Canajoharie
Stubley allegedly failed to disclose that he owned multiple properties while receiving welfare assistance. He is charged with felony offering a false instrument for filing.

Pearsall is facing three felony counts of offering a false instrument for filing and felony welfare fraud for allegedly for receiving $6,421 in SNAP benefits while he was running an online business.

Vanessa Patrei, 30, Little Falls
Patrei is accused of lying about her address and collecting $772 in SNAP benefits. She is charged with felony offering a false instrument for filing and welfare fraud.

All eight people will return to the Town of Mohawk Court in July.
