KIPP graduates honored
ALBANY - 39 students of the Founding class of Kipp Tech Valley are now high school graduates and were honored for the in a special celebration.
The 39 students graduated from the 8th grade in 2009.
"I am so proud to see our students achieve this tremendous milestone, and excited that they are heading off to have lives full of learning and continued achievement." said KIPP school co-founder, Dustin Mitchell. "Our students have worked so hard to get here, and they're proof that all students can learn and go to college when they have the support to help them stay committed to their goals."
The graduates from KIPP Tech Valley's first 8th grade class have gained acceptance to leading colleges, including Syracuse University, RPI, Spelman College, Siena College and the University of Buffalo. Nationally, more than 83 percent of the students who have completed 8th grade at KIPP schools have matriculated to college.
In 2011, KIPP Tech Valley outperformed the district in every tested subject and grade on the New York State Assessment. In math, its 7th and 8th graders outperformed the state average.
