POTENTIAL WINTER STORM WEDNESDAY INTO THANKGIVING

There remains considerable uncertainty in the track and intensity of an anticipated coastal storm from Wednesday afternoon through early Thanksgiving morning, but confidence is increasing for a storm to bring accumulating snow to much of the region which would cause travel difficulty.  Details on amounts and timing will become more clear over the next twelve to twenty four hours.  Keep up to date on the forecast.

2 NY vets of Edson's Raiders recall WWII battles

CHRIS CAROLA/Associated Press

GLENS FALLS (AP) -- Two upstate New York veterans living just miles apart are among the dwindling number of surviving members of an elite Marine Corps unit from World War II.
Gerald West, of Fort Edward, and Robert Addison, of Glens Falls, served in the 1st Marine Raider Battalion, known as Edson's Raiders, named after the hard-charging officer who led the unit during its first battles in the South Pacific.
West recently joined Addison at his home to reminisce about their experiences during the bloody fight for the island of Guadalcanal, where the outnumbered Marines led by Edson's Raiders successfully repulsed Japanese attacks at a place known as Bloody Ridge.
Out of an original roster of 900 men, fewer than 150 of Edson's Raiders are believed to still be alive this Memorial Day weekend.
