ShopRite opens fourth area store

COLONIE -- ShopRite opened its fourth, and largest, area location Sunday at 1730 Central Avenue on Sunday. The 70,000 square foot store boasts more local products than its existing stores.
“Over 300 jobs are created at the store in the community and they are local, so we're really happy that people have had the opportunity to gain employment at ShopRite and the Village of Colonie and Town of Colonie as well,” said Patricia Cruz with ShopRite.
Some area businesses were concerned about traffic, but the fears were eased following the opening. A new traffic light at the store’s entrance appeared to ease congestion, although at times cars backed into the middle turning lane for several cycles.
“[ShopRite] has been very cooperative with me and our residents to protect our neighborhood and anything that I’ve asked for they've been above and beyond to do,” said Frank Leak, mayor of Colonie.
ShopRite entered the Capital Region in 2011 after leaving the area 20 years ago. Only four stores were initially planned.
“The village of Colonie is so glad that ShopRite picked our area to come into with one of its stores,” said Leak.
