Herkimer man sentenced for police chase death
HERKIMER (AP) -- A 25-year-old Herkimer man has been sentenced to from five to eight years in prison for the death of a woman in a collision during a police chase.
The Utica Observer-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/10fP5lC ) 25-year-old Daniel Conklin of Rochester was sentenced Thursday in Herkimer County Court, where he'd pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault and first-degree unlawfully fleeing police.
Conklin apologized to 65-year-old Gail Pietruska's family, saying he wished he could trade places with her.
The Frankfort woman was killed when Conklin crashed into her SUV while being pursued by police trying to stop him for speeding on May 24 in the Mohawk Valley town of Schuyler.
