Schenectady senior homes go smoke-free

SCHENECTADY -- It's butts out in Schenectady for anyone visiting or living at municipal senior homes.
The Schenectady Municipal Housing Authority (SMHA) went smoke-free at its senior developments on April 1, 2013.
The policy bans residents, guests and visitors from lighting up in individual units, in common areas and on grounds.
There are designated outdoor smoking areas set up for anyone wishing to smoke.
The policy applies to all 412 units in the SMHA's three downtown developments - Schonowee Village, Lincoln Heights and Ten Eyck Apartments which house seniors and the disabled.
