Overnight standoff ends in arrest

DELMAR - Bethlehem police have taken a man into custody after an 11 hour overnight standoff in a Delmar home.

Police say 57-year-old James Baxter was seen loading a rifle in an upstairs window at 15 Huntersfield Road in Delmar after a verbal fight with his brother.  Hours later and after numerous attempts to contact Baxter, Albany Police Department's Emergency Services Team deployed a robot into the home.

At around 9:20 Saturday morning Baxter was taken into custody without incident.  Inside police discovered a loaded rifle with a scope and over 300 rounds of ammunition.

Baxter was charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon and was taken to Albany Medical Center for evaluation.  He was arraigned and taken to Albany County Jail without bail.

Baxter is scheduled to appear in Bethlehem Town Court on Tuesday, April 16.
