Snowstorm Well Underway - Periods of Heavy Snow and Difficult Travel into Tonight

Snowfall rates of 1" to at times 2" per hour are likely this afternoon and this evening across most of the area as low pressure passes to the region's south.  This will cause rapid accumulations and low visibility producing hazardous travel conditions.  The storm will begin winding down after 10-11pm with accumulating snow ending from west to east between 1am and 4am Thursday. Police: Man charged with DWI after hitting teen with car

PORT EWEN - An 18-year-old is dead after being struck and killed by a man police say was intoxicated.

Officers from Ulster County sheriff's department say that Paul Degraff, Jr. was driving on Salem Street in Port Ewen Thursday when he struck and killed Derek Wood who was walking along the street.  Degraff was taken to Albany Medical Center with injuries from the accident.

Degraff is charged with vehicular manslaughter, DWI, and criminal mischief.

After being released from the hospital Sunday afternoon, he was arraigned in the Town of Esopus Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail on $100,000 bail.

The investigation is continuing.
