NASA to teach Nisky students about Mars exploration

NISKAYUNA - Students from Niskayuna High School learned about Mars exploration from NASA.

Dr Randii Wessen gave a presentation to the earth science classes Thursday morning. The students learned about the possibilities of deep space flagship missions, focusing on Mars exploration.

Dr. Wessen is the deputy manager of the project formulation office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He has been involved in planetary exploration of Uranus, Neptune, Saturn, and Mars. His work as telecommunications and mission systems manager for the Mars Program included involvement with the 2001 Mars Odyssey, the European Space Agency's Mars Express, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, and the Mars Exploration Rovers.

Dr. Wessen's visit is being made possible by GE Global Research and The Distinguished Lecture Program of The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
