Police: Weapon, drug charges for trio involved in high-speed chase
ALBANY -- A trio of suspects is facing weapon and drug charges after a high-speed chase on Wednesday.
Troy Police officers originally tried to pull the suspects over in relation to an ongoing investigation. They pursued the car down I-787, but lost sight of it near the I-90 exchange. The Albany Police Department then picked up the chase on Quail Street until it ended on the Dunn Memorial Bridge, where the suspects' car hit the concrete wall.
At that point, investigators say the driver of the car got out and jumped off the ramp. Another one of the suspects also leaped over the rail in an attempt to flee, but wound up dangling 40 feet above the ground before falling. Both men were treated at the scene and are now in stable condition at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Cops say the third occupant of the vehicle also considered jumping from the ramp, but had reservations. They say after climbing over the rail, he immediately held on to a nearby cable, and was quickly grabbed by a police officer.
The suspects, Dahmeek McDonald, 19, Javon Daniels, 17, and Donovan Mays, 17, all from Troy, are now each charged with criminal possession of a weapon. McDonald and Daniels also face drug charges stemming from the 11 grams of crack cocaine police say they found on the two men.
