Motorcyclist leads cops on Northway chase

State Police say a motorcyclist was barreling along at 107 miles an hour on the Northway before ending up in an accident five exits away from where they initially told him to pull over.

Police say William Varley, 24, of Schuylerville, didn't stop when authorities tried to pull him over at Exit 11 for excessive speed. According to officials, Varley would appear to slow down and stop, then speed up when the patrol car caught up with him.

Troopers lost sign of him when he left the highway at Exit 6, but was found a short time later on Route 9 in Colonie. That's where authorities say he was involved in a crash with a car.

Varley was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where he is in stable condition. The driver of the car had minor injuries.

Varley is facing a host of charges including reckless driving, speeding and operating an uninspected, unregistered motorcycle.
