Snow and Gusty Wind Today - Poor Travel Conditions Expected

A Nor'easter  is expected to impact the region today, but the impact around the Capital Region looks to be on the lighter side, as the storm takes a more Easterly track. Snowfall of varying intensity is expected through this afternoon and evening.  A gusty NNW wind from 15-20 mph at times will cause blowing and drifting of the very dry snow creating poor visibility and hazardous travel conditions at times through late tonight. General Storm accumulations in the Capital Region of 2-6" are expected, with higher amounts across western New England.

Hudson river oil spill

NORTHUMBERLAND - Dredging crews working on the Hudson River report a hydraulic oil spill after an equipment failure.

Crews reported at around 2:30 p.m. a hydraulic cylinder on a dredging bucket failed spilling 4.5 gallons of oil to spill into the Hudson River.

The hydraulic oil, used in all equipment on the Hudson River Dredging Project, is an environmentally-friendly, non-toxic, biodegradable, non-petroleum-based oil.

GE reported the spill to the EPA, DEC and the national spill hotline.  The dredge was shut down, and a crew set out the necessary oil absorbent materials and containment booms and swept the area with a sweeper to contain and collect the spilled hydraulic oil.

The bucket was replaced and the dredge returned to normal operation Wednesday night.
