Schenectady's Casper Wells HR In Spring Debut
LAKELAND, FL - First impressions are important. And Detroit Tigers outfield prospect Casper Wells (Schenectady) made a big first impression Tuesday afternoon by belting a three-run homer as part of a 13-1 rout of Florida Southern in their Grapefruit League opener.
Wells' blast came in the 8th inning and cut through a stiff head wind to easily clear the left field fence.
He pinch hit in the 7th inning and popped out, before homering in his next at bat.
The 25-year-old is one of Detroit's top outfield prospects. He has spent the past two seasons on the Tigers' 40-man roster and playing for their AA affiliate in Erie, PA. Wells is among the candidates to fill the final spot on Detroit's 25-man roster for opening day.
