Troy, NY - What to do on a rare day off for the Tri-City ValleyCats? How about a road trip to Cooperstown.
The New York-Penn League schedule provides a rare day off for Houston's Class A affiliate on Tuesday. And so most of the club will tour the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
"I went when I was ten years old, and when I was twelve years old," said ValleyCats pitcher Joe Musgrove following Monday's 4-3 win over Batavia. "I don't think I appreciated it as much (then) as I will now that I'm playing the game professionally."
Musgrove is from El Cajon, CA, and made those cross country trips as a child to play youth games at Cooperstown Dreams Park.
Another Californian, Ricky Gingras of Palm Desert, will be making his first visit Tuesday to the quaint village that sits 90 minutes west of Troy.
"It's actually my first time in New York, being up here in Tri-City," said Gingras. "I'm real excited to go tomorrow."
