New York State high school basketball hall of famer George Mardigan has resigned his post as the Varsity Coach at Watervliet after spending three decades on the job. Mardigan handed in his resignation Monday afternoon and then met with his players. In a press release the school district cites "personal reasons" for his departure.
Mardigan is the winningest coach in Section 2 history, with 544 victories, 13 sectional titles and a New York State championship.
The district plans to have an interim coach in place for the Cannoneers next game.
