NYC still considers smoking ban in parks, beaches
NEW YORK -- New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the city is still pursuing the idea of banning smoking on beaches and in parks.
Health commissioner Thomas Farley revealed last year that parks were the next place the city would look to extend its smoking ban.
Smoking is not allowed in city restaurants and bars.
Other cities and states have banned smoking in parks. Bloomberg said Tuesday he's waiting for a final report on the concept from the health commissioner.
He has said in the past it might be a difficult policy to impose. But aides said the city is likely to attempt it through a citywide law.
Farley said last year he thought it could be done.
