Best chance of white Christmas: Pinkham Notch, NH
Comments 0 | Recommend 0ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) -- Anyone dreaming of a white Christmas will likely find it in the New Hampshire community that's home to the highest peak in the Northeast.
The NOAA Northeast Regional Climate Center at Cornell University in Ithaca says Thursday that Pinkham Notch, home to 6,288-foot Mount Washington, has a 95 percent chance of at least 1 inch of snow on the ground for Dec. 25. Last Christmas, the community 140 miles north of Boston had a 3-inch snowfall.
Boonville on the southeastern edge of New York's Adirondack Mountains has a 94 percent chance of snow on Christmas, followed by Caribou, Maine, with a 92 percent chance and St. Johnsbury, Vt., at 89 percent.
The regional climate center assembles its probabilities based on a 50-year average.
