Town of Halfmoon water treatment plant resumes supplying water to residents
Comments 0 | Recommend 0HALFMOON -- The town's water treatment plant is supplying water to town residents again now that dredging on the Hudson River has stopped for the year.
The town had been purchasing water from the city of Troy while General Electric dredged PCBs from the river. Samples of the water taken by the state Department of Health indicate PCB levels are below the base-line levels taken before dredging began in 2008.
The PCB base-line levels are safe for municipal water supply, the town says.
The town estimates it will take approximately three to four days for all the Troy-supplied water to be consumed and out of the water supply system.
The Troy water contains fluoride, while the town of Halfmoon's water does not. Residents should consult their physicians if they have questions or concerns regarding fluoridation of water.
