ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- New York state is getting $87 million for drinking water projects across the state through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Gov. David Paterson says a total of 14 projects will receive financing to improve drinking water systems, create jobs and protect public health.

The projects will be supplemented with additional funding through the New York Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.

One of the projects is the Town of Caneadea in Allegany County. It will receive $8.3 million for a new transmission main, replacement of aged water mains and the provision of public water to areas with poor quality private wells.

The city of Amsterdam in Montgomery County will receive $10.6 million for a major upgrade of its water treatment plant, which is over 30 years old.

The Town of Poestenkill in Rensselaer County will receive $10.2 million for the construction of a new water district.
