Military museum at Saratoga features historic war items
Comments 0 | Recommend 0SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) -- A pair of new exhibits opening tomorrow at the New York State Military Museum feature depictions of the colorful uniforms worn by soldiers generations ago, as well as images from the Civil War, the Second World War and the Korean War.
The uniform exhibit features the artwork and historical research of Dewitt Clinton Falls, a New York City socialite, artist and military historian who died in 1937. Falls wrote books about World War I and the New York National Guard's Manhattan-based Seventh Regiment.
Original uniforms depicted in his artwork will be on display.
The other exhibit highlights the Civil War paintings of a former French army officer who came to America after the war. The artist's 12 original paintings on exhibit at the museum haven't been seen by the general public since 1897.
The exhibit also include drawings by a Korean War veteran and combat photographs taken during the 27th Infantry Division's bloody campaign on Saipan during World War II.
