Woman to Troy Police: I Want My Car Back
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A Troy woman who drove a stabbing victim to the hospital three weeks ago wants the city police department to release her car from evidence.
Kerri-Ann Vincent took her bleeding friend to the emergency department on Thursday, June 12. She surrendered her Dodge Durango to detectives that afternoon, and has not been allowed to reclaim it since.
"I can't get back and forth to work," said Vincent, a recent graduate of Hudson Valley Community College. "I can't go anywhere because I'm stuck at home all day."
Vincent's mother, Diane, has been trying to get answers from the police department, the district attorney's office, and even the mayor. She said she has come-up empty.
"It's been almost three weeks," Diane Vincent said. "We pay taxes and we have a right to property that we own."
Troy Police Detective-Sgt. David Dean said he understands the Vincent family's plight, but he said the integrity of the court case takes precedence over their inconvenience.
"We are going to complete our tests on the interior of the car and the contents of the car," Dean said. "Then, it's a matter between the defense attorney and the district attorney to have a discussion with the court on what would be appropriate."
Hoping to cut through the red tape, CBS 6 provided the Vincents' phone number to Dean. He promptly called Diane, explained the reasons for the continued retention of the car, and promised to work with her toward a quick resolution, if one is possible.
Regardless of the outcome, he said the Vincent family's frustration should not deter good Samaritans from transporting injured people to the hospital when an ambulance is not present.
