Rental car agency worker accused of stealing vehicles
ALBANY -- A Schenectady man who worked at a car rental agency has been arrested for allegedly stealing several cars from his workplace.
Twenty-one-year-old Omar McKenzie of Schenectady, who worked as a service agent at Avis Rent-a-Car at the Albany County International Airport, is accused of stealing vehicles from Avis to rent to individuals in the city of Schenectady for personal profit.
According to the Albany County Sheriff's Office, MzKenzie's position allowed him unsupervised access to rental vehicles as they were returned by Avis customers.
Police say he stole at least two vehicles, later located in the city of Schenectady. Investigators from the Schenectady Police Department and the Albany County Sheriff's Office recovered three additional stolen vehicles, and arrested three occupants for possession of stolen vehicles.
McKenzie was charged with two felony counts of third-degree grand larceny. He has been remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
