Gunfire In Troy - Two Shot, One Dead
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The shots were fired around 4:45 on 2nd Avenue near 118th Street. Police called it a shootout - one that left bullet fragments and shell casings scattered on the avenue. Police say the person who died was shot in the chest on the street in front of a store called Community Grocery at 611 2nd Ave.
Troy Police Sgt. David Dean says it's surprising to see a killing in this part of the city. "Our violent crime has been well under control and this is a shock and a disappointment to us all," says Dean. "We're saddened that this occurred on streets that we feel were lawful and under control."
One witness told CBS6 News how he helped police: "I seen one of the guys coming toward the house, toward my window and I didn't know if he still had a gun so I leaned back and then I went to my other window and looked out the other side and he was making a turn around the corner and I noticed that he dropped his phone so I went down, picked up the phone and handed it to the police."
When police arrived at the scene, they found one man with gunshot wounds to the chest and was brought to St. Mary's hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Police say they then took a phone call from someone at Samaritan Hospital saying someone else who had been shot was being treated here. Police said they questioned that person and believe the two shootings are related.
Police would only describe the deceased as a male and would not give us an approximate age.
The Troy Police is asking anyone with information related to the homicide to contact the Troy police detectives at (518) 270-4426.
