Troy man faces animal cruelty charges

A Troy man faces animal cruelty charges after he was seen last night at about 6:15 PM walking several puppies with severely overweight chains. According to Troy police, The weight of the chains was enough to justify the charges.
The man arrested and charged in the incident is Kenneth I Merritt, 26, of 27 13th St., Troy. He faces two counts of "overdriving, torturing or injuring an animal," in addition to one count of unlawful possession of marihuana.
The puppies were taken to Menands Animal Shelter and Merritt was released and scheduled to appear in Troy Police Court on Monday.
