TROY -- Twenty-nine children who are part of an orphanage in Haiti being helped by a Troy group were said to be safe Monday morning.
That word comes from Cindy Schmehl, a member of the group from St. John’s Episcopal Church and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute who just returned from the island nation.
The children, ages one to 18, were living in the Port-au-Prince orphanage. Until late Sunday, their condition was unknown.
All 29 are safe, according to Schmehl, and they’re now living on the street under an awning outside the orphanage.
