Troy police, feds arrest "violent felon"
Attempted murder, home invasion alleged
Troy police say a man accused of attempted murder was arrested at his girlfriend's parents house in Greenwich early Sunday afternoon, three days after a dispute over stolen property led to a shooting in the street in Troy. Sgt. David Dean says police have arrested the man who fired a gun at people, Thursday morning, including one person who "wanted his property back." Dean did not say what the property was. No one was shot.
According to Dean, 23-year-old Branson Scott (AKA "Six") of Albany is charged with several crimes, including a home invasion (burglary). Dean says Scott went into the first-floor, rear apartment at 2309 17th Street Wednesday night around 9 p.m. Dean says one person was assaulted after the home invasion.
Dean says threats were made that led to Scott finding the victim of the burglary around 3 a.m. Dean says Scott and the victim knew each other and described them as rivals. He said he does not know the origin of their enmity. According to Dean, the shooting occurred on city streets in the area the area of 9th Sreet and Middleburgh Street and involved a car full of people. Dean says more arrests are expected.
Dean says Scott was located by Troy detectives and agents from the U.S. Marshals/NY/NJ Fugitive Task Force, with assistance from the Albany Police Department. Scott is expected to be arraigned Monday morning. He is charged with the following:
3 counts of attempted murder in the 2nd degree.
2 counts of burglary in the 1st degree.
1 count of robbery in the 1st degree.
3 counts of criminal use of a firearm in the 1st degree.
1 count of criminal possesion of a weapon in the 3rd degree.
1 count of assault 2nd.
