Local Troops Deployed

BENNINGTON, VT
One hundred soldiers from the Vermont National Guard geared up and shipped out today on their new assignment: Afghanistan.
The soldiers will be among the first of the 30,000 additional troops President Obama is deploying to Afghanistan.
At the Armory on South Street in Bennington,VT the soldiers said their goodbyes to family and friends. They will travel to Indiana first, come home for Christmas and leave for Afghanistan in early January.
Soldier Kevin Mulcahey said, "The task is a good one. We're ready for it. these guys have been training really hard. They make me proud everyday."
