Comments 0 | Recommend 0A state trooper has been shot in the hand in the Adirondacks.
In a statement, police said they had been searching for a 39-year-old Ticonderoga man named Donald McCray who had threatened to kill himself.
After a search that started Wednesday, they found him in a lean-to near the Raquette River at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Trooper George Stannard followed McCray by boat when he jumped into a canoe to escape, according to police.
After a long conversation, the trooper tried to disarm the man. That's when the gun went off.
Trooper Stannard was taken to the hospital.
He's recovering this morning.
McCray has been charged with assault and in being held without bail and awaiting a ental evaluation.
